CopperRidge Puppies “Cleaning Up” at Recent Puppy Sweeps!

Tuesday, August 3rd, 2010

CopperRidge Ridgebacks is so very proud of all of our puppies!  We have had some wonderful wins in the Puppy Sweeps events at recent shows.   Puppy Sweeps are not held at every show and have to be a sponsored event usually held at a RRCUS supported entry.  You generally find the judges for Puppy Sweeps are Ridgeback breeders so it is especially nice to know your dog is being recognized by a fellow breeder.

Just this past weekend - July 31 & Aug. 1 - Cody (CopperRidge Fire and Ice) took Best in Sweeps and Best of Opposite Sex in Sweeps in Waukesha, WI - thanks to Breeder/Judges Celia Hoffman and Glenn Hoffman.  Cody is from the Jessie x Rowan litter of Sept. 2009.  It should be noted this is his SECOND Best is Sweeps win!  He also won Best of Opposite Sex at a show in May.  Congratulations to owner Judy Henke!

Speaking of the Jessie x Rowan litter - there is ANOTHER Best is Sweeps winner!  Howie (CopperRidge Fire Under Control) was Best in Sweeps at the Arizona Ridgeback Specialty in April of 2010.  Thanks to Breeder/Judge Marco Solorio and congrats to owner John Kelly!

Lastly, from the Chris x Hannah litter, Haley (CopperRidge One Fell Swoop) has won Best in Sweeps at the OCRRC Specialty (Thank you Breeder Judge Eileen Bailey) and back to back Best in Sweeps at the Colorado Springs shows (Thanks to Breeder/Judges Debra Driza and Susan Mellonee).  Congrats to owners Stephen and Jaimie Hovenac.

Arizona Rhodesian Ridgeback Breeder, CopperRidge, has a winning weekend!

Tuesday, March 9th, 2010

Scottsdale, Arizona Ridgeback Breeder, CopperRidge, had a winning weekend at the recent dog shows held at WestWorld.  The “Fiesta Cluster” might have been cut short by rain (Monday was canceled due to a flooded field) but that did not shorten the wins by the CopperRidge dogs!

Friday and Saturday shows were sponsored by the Scottsdale Dog Fancier Association.  Judge James G. Reynolds awarded Chase, CopperRidge KZ Out of Africa, Best of Winners from the 12-18 month class.  This is Chase’s first 4 point major win.  Congratulations to owners Bonnie and Patrick Evans!  Chase was expertly handled by Memo Guillermo.

Saturday was even more exciting.  Haley, CopperRidge One Fell Swoop, went Best of Winners (from the American Bred class) and then Best of Opposite Sex under Judge Dr. Robert D. Smith.  This is only the second day in the show ring for this beautiful girl and she won over 6 Championed bitches in the specials ring.  OUTSTANDING!  A huge congratulations goes out to her owners Jaimie and Steve Hovanec.

On Sunday, we had another major win.  Shumba, CopperRidge KZ Jock of the Bushveld, went Winner’s Dog from the Bred By Exhibitor class for his SECOND 4 point major win - thanks to Judge Karen Wilson.  Shumba now has 2 major wins under his belt as well as 8 total points.  He is over 1/2 way to his championship already!!  Congrats to Tara Sissel and Bruno Teixeira !

Monday we were all disappointed.  It had rained all day Sunday which left the polo field at WestWorld under inches of water.  We were all on a roll and more winning was yet to be had!

In some out-of-state news, Sahara, CopperRidge Desert Rose of Lionlamb, went Best in Puppy Sweeps at the Rockland County NY RRCUS supported show in February.  Congratulations to her owner/handler Susan Pisarri!

Local Arizona Ridgeback Breeder and Owner-Handler makes top 10 in RRCUS

Tuesday, May 19th, 2009

Local Arizona Ridgeback Breeder and Owner/Handlers, Kathryn and Donald Blumenfeld-Jones (of KaKily Ridgebacks) are in the top 10 RRCUS Owner/Handler Program. This is a program which encourages members of RRCUS, who are amateur owners, to participate as handlers of Rhodesian Ridgeback dogs owned or co-owned by them. An “amateur-owner-handler” is a person who is the registered owner of the dog and who has not at any point in time been a professional dog handler or employed as an assistant to a professional handler.

We are very proud of Kathryn and Donald and their accomplishments as breeder/owner/handlers. Kathryn, who handles Dina (CH Kakily Starry Night of Pumamere-Coprdg, JC, RN) has had numerous Best of Opposite Sex and Best of Breed wins. Dina is currently #13 in Breed Points and #1 Bitch in the country. Kathryn and Dina have also participated in the AKC/Eukanuba National Championship show in 2007 & 2008 (which are an invitation only event) and placed first in the very competitive Bred-by-Exhibitor class. In 2008, Dina went on to a Group 2 win!

Shaka (BISS CH Kakily Shockwave of Pumamere-Coprdg, JC RN) is handled by breeder/owner/handler Donald. Shaka recently won Best in Specialty Show at the Orange Coast Rhodesian Ridgeback Specialty with an entry of over 90 dogs. Shaka has also won numerous Best of Breed titles and he is currently #7 in Breed Points.

Both Donald and Kathryn will be traveling to Lansing, Michigan to compete at the RRCUS National Specialty which takes place May 25-31st. Both will be in the Top 20 and Best in Breed classes. We wish them the best of luck!

If you are interested in becoming an owner/handler, check for a local handling class or ask a local breeder for a recommendation. At these classes, you will learn basic “show ring etiquette”. You can also go to www.akc.org for more information on handling and dog shows.
