New Champions on the Horizon for CopperRidge

Friday, February 25th, 2011

This year has already been filled with wins and we are only in February!  With the 2011 show season in full swing, some of our dogs are on the verge of champion status.

The Palm Springs shows in January were good for our CopperRidge dogs.  The big winners were Leo, CopperRidge One Lucky Lion, and Shani, CopperRidge One Beautiful Sunshine.  Both were being shown in the very competetive Bred-By-Exhibitor class and were either 1st or 2nd most of the time.  But on Sunday, Leo took Best of Winners for a 4-point major under Breeder/Judge Lisa Hoffman.  That same day, Charlie, CopperRidge One Good Time Charlie, took 4th in a very large Open Dog class.

One of our younger show dogs, Sydney, RedSkyes-Maijani CopperRidge Venus, held her own in the large 9-12 puppy classes taking either 1st or 2nd over the weekend.

Then we had a 4-day show in Phoenix where we had more shinning stars.  The first day, Leo went Best of Winners and Sam, CopperRidge KZ Silverado Sam, took Reserve.  Sebastian, CH CopperRidge Caliente, took Select Dog.  Thanks to Judge Ms Joanne M Buehler.

Then on Sunday, our newest boy to the ring, Palmer, CopperRidge the Nineteenth Hole, took Winners Dog from the 9-12 puppy class in his second ever show getting his first 2-points!  What a natural!  He is from our Reese x Chester litter of April 2010.

That same day, Howie, CopperRidge Fire Under Control, took Reserve with his co-breeder, Tammy Western, handling and Shani also went reserve.  Shani went on to a Group 1 in the Bred-By-Exhibitor ring with Aura handling her.  Sebastian took Best of Breed and he went on to make the final cut in the group ring among very strong competition!  Talk about a winning day!  Thank you to Judge Mr. Manuel Queijeiro who is an International Judge from Mexico.

On Monday, the wins just kept coming.  Sam took Best of Winners, Leo went Reserve, Shani took Winners, and Sebastian took Select Dog in the Breed ring.  WOW - can you say AWESOME?!  Aura did a fantastic job showing Sam, Leo and Shani to their wins and thanks to Judge Mrs. Anne Savory Bolus for recognizing our wonderful dogs!

To date, Leo is ONE point away from his Championship and Sebastian needs just TWO more points for his Grand Championship!  Both Sam and Shani now have their first major wins and Palmer has his first points.

It has been a great start to 2011 and there are lots of shows coming up.  Come out to the WestWorld shows the weekend of March 4-7 and come cheer us on or just stop by to say hello!

CopperRidge Ridgebacks Had a Great Time at Nationals

Monday, October 4th, 2010

As some of you may or may not know, the ’super bowl’ of ridgeback specialties is the yearly RRCUS National Specialty.  Each year the National Specialty is held in a different state and this year the event took place in Ventura, California.  What a wonderful venue - right next to the ocean - and what beautiful weather!

This year’s judges were Breeder Judge Doreen Kent for Sweeps and Breeder Judge Sandra Fikes for regular conformation classes.  CopperRidge was represented at the specialty by 19 dogs and we want to send out a special thank you to all the owners who either brought and showed their own dog(s) and those that let us bring their dog to the show with us.  We had entries from Puppy Sweeps to Best of Breed and we also had entries in Brood Bitch and Stud Dog.  As a breeder, we could not be any prouder and happier with all of our dogs!

With an entry of over 500 beautiful dogs from all over the country and some from other countries - here are some of the highlights:

Chris - who was entered in Veteran’s 7-9 - won his class in a VERY competitive class.  He’s still got it!!!

Haley - went BEST OF JUNIOR SWEEPS - beating out an entry of over 90 dogs!  This was her 4th Best of Sweeps win and she was being beautifully shown by Kathy Richards.  Congrats to owners Stephen and Jaimie Hovanec.

Leo - went BEST OF OPPOSITE JUNIOR SWEEPS - wow - a one-two win for two of the pups from the Chris x Hannah litter.  He also went 3rd in the OPEN class!  Aura showed him in both classes and did a wonderful job!  Congrats to owners David and George Reicher.

Charlie - was shown by Aura and went 3rd in 18-22 month Sweeps and 4th in Am Bred Class.  Congrats to owner Nadia Tellechea!  Best wishes on Nadia’s upcoming nuptuals this month!

Hannah - went 4th in BROOD BITCH (with an entry of 26) - behind her in the ring was Haley and Leo.  We are very proud of this accomplishment as this was an outstanding litter with Chris.

We had other dogs make the “cuts” which is an accomplishment in and of itself at such a prestigious show.  Hats off to all of the owners who handled their own dogs and thanks to all those that helped us when we were a bit short on handlers in the ring.

What a wonderful week in California!  Next year’s specialty will be held in South Dakota in September - anyone up for a road trip?

Fantastic News from the AKC/Eukanuba National Championship Dog Show

Tuesday, December 15th, 2009

Arizona Ridgeback Breeders KaKily Ridgebacks and CopperRidge Ridgebacks have some AMAZING news from the show ring at the AKC/Eukanuba National Championship Dog Show. This is one of the most prestigious dogs shows second only to Westminster and the Ridgeback National Specialty! Our very own dear friend Kathryn Blumenfeld-Jones (owner/breeder/handler) beat out a national entry of over 50 dogs to earn the title of Best of Breed with Dina, CH KaKily Starry Night of Pumamere-Coprdg, JC RA. Kathryn and Dina looked unbelievably outstanding in the ring and Dina beat out the #1 Ridgeback in the country and many other top ten dogs! Dina is only the second bitch in the breed history to win Best of Breed at Eukanuaba.

They were also awarded Best Bred by Exibitor for the third year in a row!!

All of us at CopperRidge Ridgebacks can not be any prouder! Kathryn has handled Dina from the very beginning and she has been very successful as a owner/breeder/handler in a “professional handler” arena. Dina was the breeding of Kathryn’s bitch, Pumamere’s Endelea Duara, to CopperRidge’s Coby, Am/Int CH Wyndrunhr Skywalker, JC CGC ROM. We are so happy that Kathryn and Donald chose to breed their lovely bitch to Coby and we are so happy for all their success with Dina and Shaka!

Shaka, BISS CH KaKily Shockwave of Pumamere-Coprdg, JC RN, by the way didn’t do too bad either. Donald Blumenfeld-Jones (owner/breeder/handler) made the first cut which is a wonderful accomplishment in and of itself! Both dogs are in the top 20 for the year - all owner/handled!!! WAY TO GO!

Orange Coast Rhodesian Ridgeback Club Regional Specialty

Wednesday, April 15th, 2009

What a GREAT weekend for Arizona Ridgeback breeders, CopperRidge Ridgebacks and KaKily Ridgebacks, at the Orange Coast RR Club/Western Hound Assoc. of Southern California - “Hound Classic” weekend! The three day event took place April 10-12 near Riverside, CA.

shaka-oc-win1 There were over 90 Ridgebacks entered on Friday and the Judging was handled by Pamela Levander. Best of Breed honors went to Breeder/Owner Donald Blumenfeld-Jones - EXPERTLY handling Shaka (CH Kakily Shockwave of Pumamere-CopperRidge, JC RN) There were 18 dogs entered in Best of Breed class so this was a wonderful win for Donald and Shaka - they looked incredible.

Kudos go out to Owner/Handler Tammy Western who handled Jessie (CH CopperRidge 100 Degrees in the Shade, JC) for the first time in the Best of Breed ring. She received a 1st Award of Merit - OUTSTANDING and way to go Tammy!

On Saturday, Donald and Kathryn, who was handling Dina (CH Kakily Starry Night of Pumamere-CopperRidge, JC RN), each received an Award of Merit in the Best of Breed competition. Again, this was a large and competitive class and we are very proud of our breeder/owner/handlers Donald and Kathryn!

On Sunday, owner/handler Kathy Richards was awarded Reserve to Winner’s Dog with Sebastian (CopperRidge Caliente). Sebastian had won Open Class both Friday and Saturday which was a tremendous feat in and of itself and then was able to end the weekend with a Reserve Win. Way to go Kathy!

On a side (and funny) note - Kathy Richards was given the dubious honor of “Best Dressed in Show” on Sunday by “The Ridgeback Register”. You can subscribe to their newsletter at www.theridgebackregister.com.

There are some great dog shows coming up and we will keep you posted on all the winnings………
