CopperRidge Ridgebacks Had a Great Time at Nationals

Monday, October 4th, 2010

As some of you may or may not know, the ‘super bowl’ of ridgeback specialties is the yearly RRCUS National Specialty.  Each year the National Specialty is held in a different state and this year the event took place in Ventura, California.  What a wonderful venue – right next to the ocean – and what beautiful weather!

This year’s judges were Breeder Judge Doreen Kent for Sweeps and Breeder Judge Sandra Fikes for regular conformation classes.  CopperRidge was represented at the specialty by 19 dogs and we want to send out a special thank you to all the owners who either brought and showed their own dog(s) and those that let us bring their dog to the show with us.  We had entries from Puppy Sweeps to Best of Breed and we also had entries in Brood Bitch and Stud Dog.  As a breeder, we could not be any prouder and happier with all of our dogs!

With an entry of over 500 beautiful dogs from all over the country and some from other countries – here are some of the highlights:

Chris – who was entered in Veteran’s 7-9 – won his class in a VERY competitive class.  He’s still got it!!!

Haley – went BEST OF JUNIOR SWEEPS – beating out an entry of over 90 dogs!  This was her 4th Best of Sweeps win and she was being beautifully shown by Kathy Richards.  Congrats to owners Stephen and Jaimie Hovanec.

Leo – went BEST OF OPPOSITE JUNIOR SWEEPS – wow – a one-two win for two of the pups from the Chris x Hannah litter.  He also went 3rd in the OPEN class!  Aura showed him in both classes and did a wonderful job!  Congrats to owners David and George Reicher.

Charlie – was shown by Aura and went 3rd in 18-22 month Sweeps and 4th in Am Bred Class.  Congrats to owner Nadia Tellechea!  Best wishes on Nadia’s upcoming nuptuals this month!

Hannah – went 4th in BROOD BITCH (with an entry of 26) – behind her in the ring was Haley and Leo.  We are very proud of this accomplishment as this was an outstanding litter with Chris.

We had other dogs make the “cuts” which is an accomplishment in and of itself at such a prestigious show.  Hats off to all of the owners who handled their own dogs and thanks to all those that helped us when we were a bit short on handlers in the ring.

What a wonderful week in California!  Next year’s specialty will be held in South Dakota in September – anyone up for a road trip?
