Chris son, Leo, wins Best of Breed at Canadian National Specialty

April 14th, 2011

Since our last blog, a lot of exciting news has taken place!  Probably the most exciting news just came on April 9th from Canada.  Leo, GCH RedSkyes Catch A Fire, won Best of Breed at the Rhodesian Ridgeback Club of Canada National Specialty with a record entry of 100 dogs.   We could not be more thrilled and what an accomplishment!  Congratulations to our dear friends Nancy Brandewie, Linda Cannon and Debra Driza of RedSkyes who bred their lovely girl Sunni to our boy Chris.

On the local show dog scene, we have other Chris kids making the winners circle!   Congratulations to Rae, CH CopperRidge One in a Million, for getting her Grand Champion title and winning 5 Best of Breed titles so far this year!   Chris also has two new Champion kids, Leo, CH CopperRidge One Lucky Lion, and Haley, CH CopperRidge One Fell Swoop. Congrats to owners David Reicher (Leo) and Jaimie and Stephen Hovenac (Haley).

Another Chris kid from the Hannah litter,  Shani, CopperRidge One Beautiful Sunshine, took winners on two of the days at the recent Phoenix shows and she currently needs just one more point to finish her championship!

Let’s not forget our founding father, Coby, and his kids!  From the first breeding with ZephyrCH Kwetu’s Zephyr Xprs To Sunsweet, we have another champion - Juji, CH Sunweet Ntombi Juji.

Zoey - Best of Opposite and New Champion

Zoey - Best of Opposite and New Champion

And then from the repeat breeding, we have that litter’s first champion -  Zoey, CH Sunweet Breath of Zephyr.  She went Best of Opp at the TX Combined Specialty and then the next day, went Best of Breed and a Group 3!  OUTSTANDING for this ONE YEAR OLD girl!   Congrats to breeder Sue Gatto.

Other CopperRidge dogs were very successful at the recent Kachina/Arrowhead Cluster April 7-11.  Palmer, CopperRidge the Nineteenth Hole, went Best of Winners on Thursday, Reserve on Friday, Winner’s Dog on Saturday and then Best of Winners on Sunday to cinch his championship with three 5 point majors all before his 1st birthday on Monday and ALL FROM THE 9-12 month class! OUTSTANDING!

On Sunday, Sydney, RedSkyes-Maijani CopperRidge Venus, took Winners for her first 4 point major and Keegan, Sunsweet CopperRidge Skywalkers Last Dance, took Reserve Winners - both from the 12-18 month class!  Way to go to our little girls!!!!

We also had class winners and placements from some of the new dogs in the ring - Duke, Kilmer, Apollo, and Nala.  We are also very excited to see some of our owners showing their dogs and doing well in the ring!  So proud of all of them.

Thanks to all of our dog owners who came to the shows and supported us!   We are blessed to have such a wonderful extended dog family - thank you!

New Champions on the Horizon for CopperRidge

February 25th, 2011

This year has already been filled with wins and we are only in February!  With the 2011 show season in full swing, some of our dogs are on the verge of champion status.

The Palm Springs shows in January were good for our CopperRidge dogs.  The big winners were Leo, CopperRidge One Lucky Lion, and Shani, CopperRidge One Beautiful Sunshine.  Both were being shown in the very competetive Bred-By-Exhibitor class and were either 1st or 2nd most of the time.  But on Sunday, Leo took Best of Winners for a 4-point major under Breeder/Judge Lisa Hoffman.  That same day, Charlie, CopperRidge One Good Time Charlie, took 4th in a very large Open Dog class.

One of our younger show dogs, Sydney, RedSkyes-Maijani CopperRidge Venus, held her own in the large 9-12 puppy classes taking either 1st or 2nd over the weekend.

Then we had a 4-day show in Phoenix where we had more shinning stars.  The first day, Leo went Best of Winners and Sam, CopperRidge KZ Silverado Sam, took Reserve.  Sebastian, CH CopperRidge Caliente, took Select Dog.  Thanks to Judge Ms Joanne M Buehler.

Then on Sunday, our newest boy to the ring, Palmer, CopperRidge the Nineteenth Hole, took Winners Dog from the 9-12 puppy class in his second ever show getting his first 2-points!  What a natural!  He is from our Reese x Chester litter of April 2010.

That same day, Howie, CopperRidge Fire Under Control, took Reserve with his co-breeder, Tammy Western, handling and Shani also went reserve.  Shani went on to a Group 1 in the Bred-By-Exhibitor ring with Aura handling her.  Sebastian took Best of Breed and he went on to make the final cut in the group ring among very strong competition!  Talk about a winning day!  Thank you to Judge Mr. Manuel Queijeiro who is an International Judge from Mexico.

On Monday, the wins just kept coming.  Sam took Best of Winners, Leo went Reserve, Shani took Winners, and Sebastian took Select Dog in the Breed ring.  WOW - can you say AWESOME?!  Aura did a fantastic job showing Sam, Leo and Shani to their wins and thanks to Judge Mrs. Anne Savory Bolus for recognizing our wonderful dogs!

To date, Leo is ONE point away from his Championship and Sebastian needs just TWO more points for his Grand Championship!  Both Sam and Shani now have their first major wins and Palmer has his first points.

It has been a great start to 2011 and there are lots of shows coming up.  Come out to the WestWorld shows the weekend of March 4-7 and come cheer us on or just stop by to say hello!

CopperRidge Ridgebacks Has Its First Grand Champion

December 9th, 2010

CopperRidge Ridgebacks is proud to announce it now has its first Grand Champion.  Our boy Chris, CH Redawgs Christofel O’CopperRidge, can now add another title to his name - Grand Champion.  What is a Grand Champion you may ask?  Well, AKC announced back in March it will be offering this new title.  Only Championed dogs may earn points toward their Grand Champion by either going Best of Breed, Best of Opposite, or two new placements - Select Dog and Select Bitch.  This was obviously a ploy to get Championed dogs back into the ring - and it worked.  Chris dusted off his show attitude and earned the needed 25 points and 3 major wins in a mere few shows.  He cinched the title at the Tucson Show on November 22nd.  The boy LOVES to show!

We should also mention there are more CopperRidge dogs in the hunt for a Grand Champion title.  Sebastian, CH CopperRidge Caliente,  and Rae, CH CopperRidge One in a Million, both have over 10 points toward their Grand Champion title.  Way to go and good luck on getting that title!

CopperRidge KZ Siverado Sam - Winners Dog

CopperRidge KZ Siverado Sam - Winners Dog

Other news from the Tucson show - Sam, CopperRidge KZ Silverado Sam, and Leo, CopperRidge One Lucky Lion, each earned points going Best of Winners Friday and Sunday respectively.  And, in his first time out in the Open Class, Bodie, CopperRidge Fire Under Control,  took Reserve to Winner’s Dog on Sunday among very stiff competition.  Last but not least, our girl Kazi, took Winners on Sunday.  Congrats to all these wonderful dogs and their owners!

The four day Yuma shows were December 3-6.  Sebastian took Best of Breed on Friday and Select Dog on both Saturday and Sunday.  Then, our newest dog to the show ring, Sydney, RedSkyes-Mijani CopperRidge Venus, took Reserve on Friday and then went Best Puppy in Hound Group on Saturday.  She made her debut in the Best in Show (for puppies) ring - hopefully that will not be her last!! Outstanding weekend for owner/handler Kathy Richards.  Way to go!!!

Last but not least - congrats to Zuri, FC RedSkyes Destination Intrigue, who is a Sunni x Chris puppy, and her owners Susan Morrell and Virginia Gilbert.  Zuri won Best of Breed at the AKC Lure Coursing Nationals.  She tied for Best in Field only to lose in the run off - and that was her 5th run of the day!  Click here to see an amazing picture of Zuri in action!

As the shows for 2010 now come to a close, we would like to thank all of our dog owners who have either showed their dogs or brought them to the show ring to strut their stuff and make CopperRidge very proud!  We would like to send out our heart felt thanks and warm wishes during this upcoming holiday season.

May you all have a wonderful holiday and an even better 2011!  See all of you next year in the show rings!

CopperRidge Ridgebacks Had a Great Time at Nationals

October 4th, 2010

As some of you may or may not know, the ’super bowl’ of ridgeback specialties is the yearly RRCUS National Specialty.  Each year the National Specialty is held in a different state and this year the event took place in Ventura, California.  What a wonderful venue - right next to the ocean - and what beautiful weather!

This year’s judges were Breeder Judge Doreen Kent for Sweeps and Breeder Judge Sandra Fikes for regular conformation classes.  CopperRidge was represented at the specialty by 19 dogs and we want to send out a special thank you to all the owners who either brought and showed their own dog(s) and those that let us bring their dog to the show with us.  We had entries from Puppy Sweeps to Best of Breed and we also had entries in Brood Bitch and Stud Dog.  As a breeder, we could not be any prouder and happier with all of our dogs!

With an entry of over 500 beautiful dogs from all over the country and some from other countries - here are some of the highlights:

Chris - who was entered in Veteran’s 7-9 - won his class in a VERY competitive class.  He’s still got it!!!

Haley - went BEST OF JUNIOR SWEEPS - beating out an entry of over 90 dogs!  This was her 4th Best of Sweeps win and she was being beautifully shown by Kathy Richards.  Congrats to owners Stephen and Jaimie Hovanec.

Leo - went BEST OF OPPOSITE JUNIOR SWEEPS - wow - a one-two win for two of the pups from the Chris x Hannah litter.  He also went 3rd in the OPEN class!  Aura showed him in both classes and did a wonderful job!  Congrats to owners David and George Reicher.

Charlie - was shown by Aura and went 3rd in 18-22 month Sweeps and 4th in Am Bred Class.  Congrats to owner Nadia Tellechea!  Best wishes on Nadia’s upcoming nuptuals this month!

Hannah - went 4th in BROOD BITCH (with an entry of 26) - behind her in the ring was Haley and Leo.  We are very proud of this accomplishment as this was an outstanding litter with Chris.

We had other dogs make the “cuts” which is an accomplishment in and of itself at such a prestigious show.  Hats off to all of the owners who handled their own dogs and thanks to all those that helped us when we were a bit short on handlers in the ring.

What a wonderful week in California!  Next year’s specialty will be held in South Dakota in September - anyone up for a road trip?

CopperRidge Puppies “Cleaning Up” at Recent Puppy Sweeps!

August 3rd, 2010

CopperRidge Ridgebacks is so very proud of all of our puppies!  We have had some wonderful wins in the Puppy Sweeps events at recent shows.   Puppy Sweeps are not held at every show and have to be a sponsored event usually held at a RRCUS supported entry.  You generally find the judges for Puppy Sweeps are Ridgeback breeders so it is especially nice to know your dog is being recognized by a fellow breeder.

Just this past weekend - July 31 & Aug. 1 - Cody (CopperRidge Fire and Ice) took Best in Sweeps and Best of Opposite Sex in Sweeps in Waukesha, WI - thanks to Breeder/Judges Celia Hoffman and Glenn Hoffman.  Cody is from the Jessie x Rowan litter of Sept. 2009.  It should be noted this is his SECOND Best is Sweeps win!  He also won Best of Opposite Sex at a show in May.  Congratulations to owner Judy Henke!

Speaking of the Jessie x Rowan litter - there is ANOTHER Best is Sweeps winner!  Howie (CopperRidge Fire Under Control) was Best in Sweeps at the Arizona Ridgeback Specialty in April of 2010.  Thanks to Breeder/Judge Marco Solorio and congrats to owner John Kelly!

Lastly, from the Chris x Hannah litter, Haley (CopperRidge One Fell Swoop) has won Best in Sweeps at the OCRRC Specialty (Thank you Breeder Judge Eileen Bailey) and back to back Best in Sweeps at the Colorado Springs shows (Thanks to Breeder/Judges Debra Driza and Susan Mellonee).  Congrats to owners Stephen and Jaimie Hovenac.

Arizona Rhodesian Ridgeback Breeder, CopperRidge, has a winning weekend!

March 9th, 2010

Scottsdale, Arizona Ridgeback Breeder, CopperRidge, had a winning weekend at the recent dog shows held at WestWorld.  The “Fiesta Cluster” might have been cut short by rain (Monday was canceled due to a flooded field) but that did not shorten the wins by the CopperRidge dogs!

Friday and Saturday shows were sponsored by the Scottsdale Dog Fancier Association.  Judge James G. Reynolds awarded Chase, CopperRidge KZ Out of Africa, Best of Winners from the 12-18 month class.  This is Chase’s first 4 point major win.  Congratulations to owners Bonnie and Patrick Evans!  Chase was expertly handled by Memo Guillermo.

Saturday was even more exciting.  Haley, CopperRidge One Fell Swoop, went Best of Winners (from the American Bred class) and then Best of Opposite Sex under Judge Dr. Robert D. Smith.  This is only the second day in the show ring for this beautiful girl and she won over 6 Championed bitches in the specials ring.  OUTSTANDING!  A huge congratulations goes out to her owners Jaimie and Steve Hovanec.

On Sunday, we had another major win.  Shumba, CopperRidge KZ Jock of the Bushveld, went Winner’s Dog from the Bred By Exhibitor class for his SECOND 4 point major win - thanks to Judge Karen Wilson.  Shumba now has 2 major wins under his belt as well as 8 total points.  He is over 1/2 way to his championship already!!  Congrats to Tara Sissel and Bruno Teixeira !

Monday we were all disappointed.  It had rained all day Sunday which left the polo field at WestWorld under inches of water.  We were all on a roll and more winning was yet to be had!
